Ice Dye Workshop
Gather in Jenna's garden for this unique and inspiring Ice Dye Workshop with Hannah Suzanna.
Wednesday, September 11th
6:00 - 8:30pm
Jenna's Garden in Eureka
During this 2.5 hour workshop, participants will learn the ice dyeing techniques while expressing their creativity and gaining inspiration in a supportive environment.
Ice dye is an undemanding process that reliably produces show-stopping plumes of color on your garments, bags, or linens. The technique consists of mounding ice on top of textiles, then sprinkling powdered dyes over the ice. The results are visually similar to the spread of pigments in wet-on-wet watercolor.
In this workshop you will:
• get hands on experience with the ice-dye process
• gain an understanding of materials needed for ice dye
• learn two methods of textile folding
• leave with two beautifully dyed items
• exercise your creativity in a fun and low-stakes manner
Please bring 2 items made from natural fibers to dye in Jenna’s beautiful garden (examples include: stained garments, tote bags, tea towels, cotton clothing). Light colored items are recommended. We will send additional information before the workshop to help you choose your items. All dyes and other materials will be provided.
Hannah Suzanna is a queer artist born and raised in Humboldt County. They have an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and have been practicing ice dye since 2020.
